Who does not know them: meeting rooms. The place where people meet to discuss important issues, do business, or take decisions together. In the centre there is always a table and people are always sitting around it. But just imagine… The lights dim and the table starts to move violently; it shakes noisily. What does this say about the meeting? Can any decisions be made when this happens? Will the truth be revealed?

Tipping Point

'Tipping Point' is inspired by a recent collaboration with researchers from Framsenter and Polaria in Tromsø about the impact of human activity and toxic waist on the arctic ecosystem. Air and water are the main elements that transport, store and interact in a vast yet very delicate thermodynamic process where small critical changes can generate enormous changes. A large glass disc is suspended from its midpoint and ballances horizontally around its point of gravity. The disc is filled with water and an airbubble that slowly travels around, hesitates and brings the disc out of balance. An enlarged level so to speak.

VOLTA is a platform for presenting the vision of contemporary art galleries of global repute whose artists represent new and relevant positions for curators and collectors alike. Conceived to bridge a gap between Basel's pre-existing fairs, VOLTA showcases galleries – whether young or mature – that choose as their mandate to work with the most exciting emerging artists. These galleries must maintain deeply meaningful connections with their artists and follow them throughout their careers.
Encouraged by the response of collectors and curators during the last editions' solo presentations and carefully considered booths, a much stronger emphasis for VOLTA will be placed on single artist presentations or on booth concepts that bring the work of two artists into dialogue with one another, thus giving emphasis to artists by allowing for a greater understanding of different individual practices.
